STATEMENT

This resolution recognizes and supports the essential and brave service of law enforcement officers at the 2015 Summer Jam concert.

Law enforcement officers are routinely called upon to protect lives and property by enforcing laws and responding in times of crisis.  They work to mitigate violence, civil disorder, and wrongdoing, even in light of possible injury, disability, or death.

At the 2015 Summer Jam concert at MetLife Stadium, law enforcement officers bravely worked to restore order and reduce chaos as crowds became unruly and began to climb fences and push their way through security.  While dispersing the disruptive crowd, law enforcement officers encountered thrown bottles and trash.  Additionally, 61 arrests were made and several State troopers suffered minor injuries.  Although their sacrifice, dedication, courage, and positive contributions to society are at times overlooked, they deserve our highest respect and deepest gratitude especially in dangerous times.

Therefore, it is appropriate to recognize and support the essential and brave service of law enforcement officers in light of their courageous efforts to reduce the threat of violence at the 2015 Summer Jam concert.
