SYNOPSIS

     Removes statutory requirement that health officers and registered environmental health specialists employed by municipalities receive maximum salary within their range within five years from date of appointment.

An Act concerning municipal employees and amending P.L.1947, c.181.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Section 5 of P.L.1947, c.181 (C.26:3-25.1) is amended to read as follows:

     5.    Every person holding a license issued under section 41 of P.L.1947, c.177 (C.26:1A-41), who is employed in a position for which this license is required by any board of health, municipality, or group of municipalities shall receive the maximum salary in the person's range, within five years from the date of appointment to this position if the majority of the person's job performance evaluations are satisfactory.

     This section shall not apply to any person employed by a board of health, municipality, or group of municipalities whose date of appointment is on or after the effective date of P.L.      , c.      (pending before the Legislature as this bill).

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would provide that the current requirement under section 5 of P.L.1947, c.181 (C.26:3-25.1) that municipal employees holding a license issued under section 41 of P.L.1947, c.177 (C.26:1A-41), which include licensed health officers and registered environmental health specialists, receive the maximum salary in the employee’s range within five years from the date of appointment to the position, will not apply to any person hired by a board of health, municipality, or group of municipalities on or after the effective date of the bill.
