SYNOPSIS

     Provides for the removal of a State Board of Education member for failure to attend three consecutive board meetings without good cause.

An Act concerning the State Board of Education and supplementing chapter 4 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    A member of the State Board of Education who fails to attend three consecutive meetings of the board without good cause may be removed from office by a two-thirds vote of the authorized membership of the board, excluding any vacancies.  The removal of the member shall be effective upon the vote of the board, and the successor shall be appointed for the unexpired term in accordance with the provisions of  N.J.S.18A:4-4.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides for the removal of a member of the State Board of Education who fails to attend three consecutive meetings of the board without good cause by a two-thirds vote of the authorized membership of the board, excluding any vacancies.  The removal would be effective upon the board's vote, and a successor would be appointed for the unexpired term by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate.
