SYNOPSIS

     Prohibits institutions of higher education from requiring students who have children to purchase meal plans, live in on-campus housing, or pay gym fees.

An Act concerning certain students enrolled in institutions of higher education and supplementing chapter 3B of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

      1.   An institution of higher education shall not require any student enrolled in the institution who has full or partial custody of a child to:

      a.   purchase a meal plan;

      b.   reside in on-campus housing 1except when required as a condition of entry into a residential cohort or access program or as a condition of receipt of a scholarship1; or

      c.   pay any fees associated with the use of a campus gym, fitness center, or other recreational facility1, as long as the fee is not associated with fees for other campus services including, but not limited to, transportation.  The institution shall not be required to allow a student to use the campus gym, fitness center, or other recreational facility if the associated fees are not paid1.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply in the first full academic year beginning after the effective date of this act.
