SYNOPSIS

Urges Congress to increase funding for services for veterans returning from deployment.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

A Senate Resolution urging Congress to increase funding for services for veterans who are returning from deployment.

Whereas, The freedom, peace and privileges that citizens of the United States enjoy today are the direct results of the sacrifices of the veterans of the Armed Forces who have selflessly served to protect our nation; and

Whereas, The brave men and women veterans of the Armed Forces, who proudly served the nation and risked their lives to protect our freedom, deserve the investment of every possible resource to ensure their lasting physical, mental, and emotional well-being; and

Whereas, Investing in the well-being of veterans of the Armed Forces benefits not only those members, but also every citizen of the United States, as such an investment ensures that these individuals will thrive upon their transition into civilian life; and

Whereas, It is no secret that certain services provided by the government have failed to adequately serve our nation’s veterans; therefore, increased funding may improve areas where service to veterans is not sufficiently addressing veterans’ needs; and

Whereas, Veterans of the United States military have served this country with honor and dignity, putting their lives on the line for this country, and at a minimum, deserve quality care and services upon their return from deployment; and

Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for this House to urge Congress to increase funding for services for veterans returning from deployment; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    This House hereby urges Congress to increase funding for services provided to veterans upon their return from deployment.

     2.    Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the President and Vice President of the United States, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, the President Pro tempore of the United States Senate, the Minority Leader of the United States Senate, each Senator and Representative from New Jersey in the Congress of the United States, and the Secretary of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

STATEMENT

This Senate resolution urges Congress to increase funding for services provided to veterans upon their return from deployment.  The freedom and privileges that citizens of the United States enjoy today are the direct results of the sacrifices of veterans of the Armed Forces who have selflessly served to protect our nation, and these veterans deserve the investment of every possible resource to ensure their lasting physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Investing in the well-being of veterans of the Armed Forces benefits not only those members, but also every citizen of the United States, as such an investment ensures that these individuals will thrive upon their transition into civilian life.  Nevertheless, it is no secret that certain services provided by the government have failed to adequately serve our nation’s veterans, and increased funding may improve areas where service to veterans is not sufficiently addressing veterans’ needs.

It is the sponsor’s hope that Congress will increase funding for services for veterans, who have served this country with honor and dignity, and who deserve quality care and services upon their return from deployment.
