SYNOPSIS
Provides for reciprocity of certain out-of-State EMT certification.

An Act concerning EMT certification and supplementing Title 26 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The commissioner, with the approval of the State Board of Medical Examiners, shall establish written standards which a person shall successfully complete in order to be certified as an EMT-Basic.
Applicants for EMT-Basic certification, who have obtained EMT-Basic certification from a state, territory, or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, shall be certified by the commissioner if the commissioner determines that the certification standards of the applicant’s certifying jurisdiction exceed or are equivalent to the certification standards established by the commissioner.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill would require New Jersey’s Commissioner of Health to certify emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who are certified in other states, provided that the standards of state in which the EMT is certified exceed or are equivalent to New Jersey’s certification standards.
