     Requires DEP to establish and maintain searchable database of lead service lines.

An Act concerning lead service lines and supplementing Title 58 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.     The Department of Environmental Protection shall establish and maintain a searchable database, accessible to the public on its Internet website, that identifies the location of all service lines known to contain lead.  The department shall update the database in a timely manner to ensure that it reflects the most current information known by the department.

     b.    As used in this section, “service line” means the pipe, tubing, and fittings connecting a water main to a building or structure. 

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would require the Department of Environmental Protection to establish and maintain a searchable database, accessible to the public on its website, that identifies the location of all service lines known to contain lead.  The department would be required to update the database in a timely manner to ensure that it reflects the most current information known by the department.
