SYNOPSIS
Finds Governor Murphy’s violation of executive order limiting public gatherings to 25 people deeply concerning.

An Assembly Resolution finding Governor Philip D. Murphy’s violation of Executive Order No. 148 (2020) deeply concerning to this House.
Whereas, On May 22, 2020, Governor Philip D. Murphy issued Executive Order No. 148 (2020) limiting the capacity on outdoor gatherings to no more than 25 people at the same time; and
Whereas, Executive Order No. 148 (2020) required all attendees at a gathering to be six feet apart from other attendees at all times, excluding family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners; and
Whereas, On June 7, 2020, Governor Murphy attended a public gathering of more than 25 people in Hillside, New Jersey and in Westfield, New Jersey, which violated Executive Order No. 148 (2020); and
Whereas, The Legislature is deeply concerned with the fact that Governor Murphy violated his own executive order; and
Whereas, Rather than rescind or revise his executive order to allow all residents of this State to be treated equally, the Governor intentionally violated his own executive order; and
Whereas, Governor Murphy should be held to the same standard as other New Jerseyans cited for participating in public gatherings of more than 25 people in violation of Executive Order No. 148 (2020); and
Whereas, The laws of this State must be enforced in a fair and consistent manner and everyone is entitled to equal protection of the law; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House finds Governor Philip D. Murphy’s violation of Executive Order No. 148 (2020), which limits the capacity on outdoor gatherings to no more than 25 people at the same time, to be deeply concerning as the Governor’s actions were inconsistent with the Governor’s public service announcements and the laws of this State.
2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the Governor and Attorney General of the State of New Jersey.
STATEMENT
This resolution finds Governor Murphy’s violation of an executive order limiting public gatherings to 25 people deeply concerning.
On May 22, 2020, Governor Philip D. Murphy issued Executive Order No. 148 (2020) limiting the capacity on outdoor gatherings to no more than 25 people at the same time. The executive order also required all attendees at a gathering to be six feet apart from other attendees at all times, excluding family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners.
On June 7, 2020, in violation of the executive order, Governor Murphy attended a public gathering of more than 25 people in Hillside, New Jersey and in Westfield, New Jersey. The Legislature is deeply concerned with Governor Murphy’s actions to intentionally violate his own executive order rather than rescind or revise the executive order to allow all residents of this State to be treated equally.
Governor Murphy should be held to the same standard as other New Jerseyans cited for participating in public gatherings of more than 25 people in violation of Executive Order No. 148 (2020). The laws of this State must be enforced in a fair and consistent manner and everyone is entitled to equal protection of the law.
