SYNOPSIS
Declares support for Israel in latest conflict with Hamas terrorists; expresses solidarity with people of Israel.

An Assembly Resolution declaring support for Israel in the latest conflict with Hamas terrorists and expressing solidarity with the people of Israel.
Whereas, An ongoing campaign of rocket attacks directed by the terrorist group Hamas against the nation of Israel threatens that nation’s peace and security; and
Whereas, To counter the Hamas terrorists, Israel has commenced an offensive with the goal of disabling the infrastructure of Hamas; and
Whereas, There can be no question that Israel has the right to defend itself from all terrorist threats and that Hamas terrorists represent a continual threat to the people of Israel; and
Whereas, Hamas terrorists continue to neglect the task of building a lasting, peaceful, and democratic nation in Palestine, instead taking action to inflict pain and suffering on others; and
Whereas, Hamas terrorists and the spread of terrorism in that region threaten the life of every person living in the Middle East; and
Whereas, The nation of Israel remains a stalwart of peace, freedom, and democratic institutions in the region; and
Whereas, It is fitting and proper for this House to reaffirm its strong, long-standing support and solidarity with Israel during this latest conflict; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House declares support for Israel in the latest conflict with Hamas terrorists and expresses solidarity with the people of Israel.
2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to Israel’s ambassador to the United States and Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations.
STATEMENT
The resolution declares support for Israel in the latest conflict with Hamas terrorists and expresses solidarity with the people of Israel.
This resolution condemns Hamas’ continued use of rocket attacks that reach farther into Israel. This act of violence puts thousands of innocent civilians in harm’s way. We call on Hamas to stop the violence and work to bridge peace with the Israeli people.
The resolution also recognizes that the counter attack commenced by Israel is in defense of that nation in order to protect its peace, security, and freedom. The counter by Israel is aimed at disabling the infrastructure of Hamas. Israel has every right to defend itself and to live free from incursions by Hamas.
This resolution also recognizes that Israel is a champion of peace, freedom, and democracy in a region marred by terrorist and militant groups. This senseless killing must end for the safety of the Jewish state and the future of a secure and just peace.
