CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

An Assembly Resolution recognizing the service of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps Team Earth 3 members who were mobilized to Atlantic City, Trenton, and Camden to support the State’s vaccination efforts.

Whereas,  The AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (AmeriCorps NCCC) is a full-time service program that allows young adults to serve on a team and make an impact in communities across the country while gaining valuable leadership skills; and

Whereas,  The AmeriCorps NCCC Team Earth 3 consisted of 10 members: Team Leader Mallory Fahey, Bailey Crowley, Bernadette Crehan, Ethan Buttery, Jeremy Shaban, Carlton Berthold, Graham Bellairs, Zoe Phillips, Kevin Zhang, and Kiera Williams; and

Whereas,  Team Earth 3 members first assembled at the AmeriCorps NCCC Southwest campus in Aurora, Colorado and performed contact tracing from a call center to limit the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); and

Whereas,  Team Earth 3 then traveled by van over four days, from Aurora, Colorado to Atlantic City, New Jersey, completing a journey of nearly 1,800 miles; and

Whereas,  On February 14, 2021, Earth 3 began supporting vaccination efforts at the Atlantic County Regional Mega Site COVID-19 Vaccination Center at the Atlantic City Convention Center; and

Whereas,  On February 21, 2021, Team Earth 3 was reassigned to support community-based vaccination sites in Trenton at Iglesia Pentecostal Church Assembly of God, Trenton Central High School, and Camden at the BB&T Pavilion; and

Whereas,  Team Earth 3 was an essential component to a larger COVID-19 response force comprised of U.S. Army medical personnel, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, New Jersey State Police, and other allied agencies administering vaccines to underserved communities; and

Whereas,  At the time of their departure, Team Earth 3 supported the administration of 7,328 vaccines in Trenton and 4,916 vaccines in Camden, for a total of 12,244 vaccinations; and

Whereas,  On March 31, 2021, Team Earth 3 departed New Jersey for Houston, Texas and served with the non-profit organization SBP that aided in disaster recovery after hurricanes damaged homes in the state; and

Whereas,  It is fitting and proper that this State recognizes the members of the AmeriCorps NCCC Team Earth 3 for their dedication, service, and sacrifice to our State in their essential contributions to supporting the State’s vaccination efforts against COVID-19; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    This House recognizes, honors, and thanks the members of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps Team Earth 3 for their dedication, service, and sacrifice to our State and our nation by responding to the call to duty in administering vaccines in Atlantic City and underserved communities in the Cities of Trenton and Camden and performing their duties with rigor, humility, and grace.

     2.    Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the Governor; the mayors of the cities of Atlantic City, Trenton, and Camden; the New Jersey State Police Superintendent, Homeland Security Branch Commander, and Emergency Management Section Supervisor; the AmeriCorps board of directors, chief executive officer, and chief of staff; and the members of Team Earth 3.
