     Requires availability of certain laboratory testing for coronavirus disease 2019.

An Act concerning coronavirus disease 2019 laboratory testing.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  As used in this section:

     “Clinical laboratory” means a laboratory licensed by the Department of Health, pursuant to the "New Jersey Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act," P.L.1975, c.166 (C.45:9-42.26 et seq.).

     "Health care professional" means a person licensed or certified to practice a health care profession pursuant to Title 45 of the Revised Statutes.

     b.    Subject to the availability of coronavirus disease 2019 tests, a clinical laboratory shall offer in-person specimen collection or at-home specimen collection kits for diagnostic testing for the coronavirus disease 2019, and in-person serologic testing for the coronavirus disease 2019, to patients who have been authorized by a health care professional to receive a test for the coronavirus disease 2019. 

 

     2.    This act shall take effect 30 days following the date of enactment and shall expire upon the end of both the state of emergency and the public health emergency declared in response to the coronavirus disease 2019.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the availability of certain laboratory testing for coronavirus disease 2019. The bill provides that, subject to the availability of coronavirus disease 2019 tests, a clinical laboratory is to offer in-person specimen collection or at-home specimen collection kits for diagnostic testing and in-person serologic testing for the coronavirus disease 2019 to patients who have been authorized by a health care professional to receive a test for the coronavirus disease 2019.
