SYNOPSIS

     Removes requirements for weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated school district employees.

An Act concerning COVID-19 testing for school district employees and supplementing chapter 30 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  a. Notwithstanding any provision of law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, a school district shall not maintain a policy requiring employees to submit to weekly COVID-19 testing or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

     b.  Nothing in subsection a. of this section shall be construed to prohibit any employee of a school district from voluntarily testing for COVID-19.

     c.  Nothing in subsection a. of this section shall be construed to prohibit a school district from imposing a requirement regarding testing of a symptomatic employee, regardless of vaccination status.

 

     2.  This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill removes the requirement of weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated employees of a school district.  Under the bill, a school district will not maintain a policy requiring employees, regardless of vaccination status, to submit to weekly COVID-19 testing.  Employees will also not be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test.  This bill does not prohibit an employee of a school district from voluntarily testing for COVID-19.  Also under the bill, a school district may require testing of a symptomatic employee, regardless of vaccination status.
