SYNOPSIS

     Requires MVC to provide certain services electronically to certain individuals and entities.

An Act concerning certain motor vehicles services and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  1[The] Beginning no later than six months after the effective date of P.L.    , c.     (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill), the1 New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, consistent with the federal “Driver’s Privacy Protection Act of 1994” Pub.L.103-322, the provisions of 18 U.S.C. s.2721, and the provisions of P.L.1997, c.188 (C.39:2-3.3 et seq.), shall provide electronic access to address and record search processes and other information and data maintained by the commission to attorneys, medical providers, and other similar professional service providers in the State.

     Any attorney, medical provider, or other similar professional service provider in the State may pay any fee charged by the commission for access to such information through an electronic payment system, which the commission shall establish and maintain.

 

     12.  If, six months after the effective date of P.L.    , c.     (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill), the commission has failed to provide electronic access to the information required pursuant to section 1 of P.L.    , c.     (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill) and to establish an electronic payment system for access to such information, the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission shall appear before the Senate Transportation Committee or the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee, or their successor committees, or other legislative committee, at the direction of the respective presiding officer, to explain why the commission has not implemented these requirements and to describe actions taken by the commission to implement these requirements.1
