SYNOPSIS

      Requires Commissioner of Corrections to institute 10-minute shift overlap in State correctional facilities; provides one-year salary increase to correctional police officers as compensation for working shift overlap.

An Act concerning shift overlap in State correctional facilities and supplementing Title 30 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    In addition to the duties of the commissioner set forth in section 6 of P.L.1976, c.98 (C.30:1B-6), the commissioner shall institute in each State correctional facility a shift overlap of 10 minutes for the purpose of information dissemination between correctional police officers beginning and ending their shifts.

 

      12.  As compensation for working the shift overlap required pursuant to section 1 of P.L.    , c.    (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill), each State correctional police officer shall receive a three percent salary increase during the one-year period following the effective date of P.L.    , c.    (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill).  The increase shall be applied to each correctional police officer’s base pensionable salary and shall be paid in 26 equal installments, payable on each regular pay period designated on the State of New Jersey’s annual payroll calendar during the one-year period following the effective date of P.L.    , c.    (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill).1
