Whereas, Nearly every aspect of daily life is made possible because truck drivers deliver the goods and resources people need; and

Whereas, Over one million professional men and women employed as drivers bolster the US economy by delivering our goods safely, securely and on time; and

Whereas, Truck drivers play a pivotal role in keeping US highways safe with truckers having an overall crash rate that is 27 percent lower than that of other vehicles; and

Whereas, Truckers deliver roughly 10 billion tons of freight annually, or about 70 percent of all the freight moved in the United States; and

Whereas, The average trucker will drive over 100,000 road miles per year, roughly 40 trips across the United States; and

Whereas, 214,880 trucking industry jobs in New Jersey account for one in 16 jobs in the State; and

Whereas, 22,780 trucking companies located in New Jersey, including small, locally owned businesses transport 313,620 tons per day; and

Whereas, 84.5 percent of New Jersey communities depend exclusively on truckers to move their goods; and

Whereas, This State should continue to highlight the important role it plays in the trucking industry by paying respect and thanking all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs; and

Whereas, It is fitting and proper for the State of New Jersey to designate the second full week in September of each year as “National Truckers Appreciation Week” in New Jersey; now, therefore,
