STATEMENT
This bill amends current law by authorizing trucks to access certain weight-restricted municipal roads for the purpose of making certain deliveries.
Under current law, each municipality is authorized to establish, by ordinance, a system of truck routes for trucks having a total combined gross weight of vehicle plus load in excess of four tons. A municipality may require trucks to exclusively use the truck routes and exclude the trucks from all other streets within the municipality unless the trucks are delivering merchandise or other property along such streets.
This bill amends current law to clarify that a delivery exception only applies to deliveries made within the municipality that adopted the ordinance that excludes trucks from streets outside of the established truck routes. The bill also amends current law to require municipalities that adopt such ordinances to provide for the installation of conspicuous signs that state deliveries within the municipality are exempted.
