STATEMENT
This bill authorizes reimbursement from the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training Fund for volunteer emergency medical technicians for initial and follow-up criminal history record background checks.
The EMT Training Fund is a nonlapsing revolving fund from which emergency medical services squads are reimbursed costs associated with the initial and refresher training and testing for EMTs. The fund is the repository for a $1 surcharge added to fines, penalties, and forfeitures for violations of certain statutes regulating motor vehicles and their operation.
A "volunteer emergency medical technician" is defined as an emergency medical technician who provides basic life support services without receiving compensation in the form of an hourly wage, a salary, or any other form of financial remuneration provided for or in connection with the provision of basic life support services.
