SYNOPSIS
Requires public schools to include instruction on meningococcal meningitis as part of the Core Curriculum Content Standards in Comprehensive Health and Physical Education.

An Act concerning meningitis education in public school districts and supplementing chapter 35 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. A board of education shall include instruction on the causes, symptoms, and means of transmission of meningococcal meningitis in an appropriate place in the curriculum of elementary school, middle school and high school as part of the Core Curriculum Content Standards in Comprehensive Health and Physical Education. The Comprehensive Health and Physical Education curriculum framework developed by the Department of Education shall include age-appropriate sample learning activities and resources designed to promote awareness of meningococcal meningitis.
2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to the 2007-2008 school year.
STATEMENT
This bill requires each board of education to provide instruction on the causes, symptoms, and means of transmission of meningococcal meningitis in an appropriate place in the curriculum of elementary school, middle school and high school as part of the Core Curriculum Content Standards in Comprehensive Health and Physical Education. Under the bill, the Comprehensive Health and Physical Education curriculum framework developed by the Department of Education must include age-appropriate sample learning activities and resources designed to promote awareness of meningococcal meningitis.
