CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
An Act concerning the special review assessment for public school students and supplementing P.L.1979, c.241 (C.18A:7C-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The State Board of Education shall not authorize the use of the special review assessment (SRA) as an alternative to the high school proficiency assessment (HSPA) in determining a student's eligibility for graduation.
2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply on July 1 of the second full school year following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill prohibits the State Board of Education from authorizing the use of the special review assessment (SRA) as an alternative to the high school proficiency assessment (HSPA) in determining a student's eligibility for graduation. Under current regulations promulgated by the State board, there are cases in which a student may substitute the special review assessment for the high school proficiency assessment in fulfilling the requirements for graduation. The prohibition would first apply to the second full school year following the bill’s enactment.
