STATEMENT

This bill prohibits the State Board of Education from authorizing the use of the special review assessment (SRA) as an alternative to the high school proficiency assessment (HSPA) in determining a student's eligibility for graduation.  Under current regulations promulgated by the State board, there are cases in which a student may substitute the special review assessment for  the high school proficiency assessment in fulfilling the requirements for graduation.  The prohibition would first apply to the second full school year following the bill’s enactment.
