SYNOPSIS
Requires physicians, dentists and nurses to complete volunteer medical, dental and nursing services, as appropriate.

An Act concerning certain medical, dental and nursing services and supplementing Title 45 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The State Board of Medical Examiners shall require each person licensed as a physician, as a condition for biennial registration pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1971, c.236 (C.45:9-6.1), to complete not less than 30 hours of volunteer medical services.
As used in this section, “volunteer medical services” means medical care provided without charge to low-income patients for health care services for which the patient is not covered by any public or private third party payer, in accordance with such standards, procedures, requirements and limitations as are established by the board.
2. The New Jersey State Board of Dentistry shall require each licensee, as a condition for biennial registration, to complete not less than 30 hours of volunteer dental services.
As used in this section “volunteer dental services” means dental care provided without charge to low-income patients for certain dental services for which the patient is not covered by any public or private third party payer, in accordance with such standards, procedures, requirements and limitations as are established by the board.
3. The New Jersey Board of Nursing shall require each licensee, as a condition for biennial license renewal, to complete not less than 30 hours of volunteer nursing services.
As used in this section “volunteer nursing services” means nursing care provided without charge to low-income patients for certain nursing services for which the patient is not covered by any public or private third party payer, in accordance with such standards, procedures, requirements and limitations as are established by the board.
4. This act shall take effect on the 180th day following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill requires physicians, dentists and nurses to complete not less than 30 hours of volunteer medical services, volunteer dental services or volunteer nursing services, as appropriate, as a condition for biennial license registration.
The bill defines volunteer medical services as medical care provided without charge to low-income patients for health care services for which the patient is not covered by any public or private third party payer, in accordance with such standards, procedures, requirements and limitations as are established by the State Board of Medical Examiners.
The bill defines volunteer dental services as dental care provided without charge to low-income patients for certain dental services for which the patient is not covered by any public or private third party payer, in accordance with such standards, procedures, requirements and limitations as are established by the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry.
The bill defines volunteer nursing services as nursing care provided without charge to low-income patients for certain nursing services for which the patient is not covered by any public or private third party payer, in accordance with such standards, procedures, requirements and limitations as are established by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
