SYNOPSIS

     Directs Dept. of Agriculture to establish clearinghouse website for farmers to offer produce and dairy products for use by school breakfast and lunch programs.

An Act establishing a farmer clearinghouse website for use by school breakfast programs and school lunch programs, and supplementing Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a. The Department of Agriculture shall develop and establish a website to serve as a clearinghouse for farmers to provide produce and dairy products to school breakfast programs and school lunch programs throughout the State.  The website shall provide a forum for farmers with produce and dairy products available for use by school breakfast and lunch programs to connect with any school or school district with a need for the produce or dairy products for its school breakfast or lunch program.

     b.    The Department of Agriculture may adopt, pursuant to the “Administrative Procedure Act,” P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), any rules and regulations necessary for the implementation of this act.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.   

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill directs the Department of Agriculture to develop and establish a website to serve as a clearinghouse for farmers to provide produce and dairy products to school breakfast programs and school lunch programs throughout the State.  The intent of this bill is to create a website similar to existing “for sale by owner” websites to provide a forum for farmers with produce and dairy products to connect with any school or school district with a need for the produce or dairy products for its school breakfast or lunch program.
