ASSEMBLY TRANSPORTATION AND INDEPENDENT AUTHORITIES COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 1369

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  FEBRUARY 3, 2020

The Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 1369.

As reported, this bill designates the portion of State Highway Route 27, extending from milepost 0 to milepost 3.04 in the municipality of Princeton, as the “Patrolman Billie D. Ellis Memorial Highway” to honor the memory of Patrolman Billie D. Ellis, who was tragically killed while attempting to save the lives of two children on Lake Carnegie during a hurricane.

Consistent with Department of Transportation policy and other road designations, the bill provides that State or other public funds are not to be used for producing, purchasing, or erecting signs bearing the designation for the “Patrolman Billie D. Ellis Memorial Highway.”  The Commissioner of Transportation is authorized to receive financial assistance from private sources for the costs associated with producing, purchasing, erecting, and maintaining signs bearing the designation.

This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2020-2021 session pending technical review.  As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
