STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 3007

with Assembly Floor Amendments

(Proposed by Assemblywoman LAMPITT)

ADOPTED: JANUARY 11, 2021

      These Assembly amendments:

      1.   require public and independent institutions of higher education to:

      (a)  ensure that all on-campus students have access to campus-based mental health care programs and services; and 

      (b)  provide assistance and referrals to mental health support services to any student unable to access on-campus services;

      2.   make a technical correction to clarify the name of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline; and

      3.   Provide that, in addition to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the NJ Hopeline, institutions may provide students with the hotline number of any 24/7 mental health hotline deemed appropriate by the Secretary of Higher Education to satisfy the hotline requirements established in the bill.
