ASSEMBLY, No. 3519

with committee amendments

      The Assembly Labor Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 3519.

      As amended, this bill amends P.L.1948, c.110 and P.L.1989, c.261 to have the paid and unpaid leave provided under those laws include leave time in which an employee who is intended to become the parent of a child under a written agreement with a gestational carrier or otherwise provides care for the person whose pregnancy will result in the child during the person’s pregnancy and recovery from childbirth.

      As amended, this bill is identical to Senate Bill No. 1001 (1R) of the 2020-2021 Legislative Session.

COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS:

      The committee amended the bill to:

      (1)  change the term “woman” to “person” with respect to a gestational carrier or pregnancy;

      (2)  change the term “anticipated” to “intended” with respect to becoming a parent upon the birth of a child.
