SYNOPSIS
Allocates $50 million to Department of Labor and Workforce Development from federal government assistance to improve unemployment insurance benefit claims processing capacity.

An Act allocating $50 million from federal government assistance to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. Out of the amounts of federal government assistance provided to this State with regard to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic which may be available to improve the claims processing capacity of the unemployment insurance program following the unprecedented spike in unemployment insurance benefit claims filings caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and related mitigation and containment efforts, $50 million shall be allocated to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development for information technology upgrades and temporary personnel hiring.
b. Within 20 days of the effective date of P.L. , c. (C. )(pending before the Legislature as this bill), the department shall submit, pursuant to section 2 of P.L.1991, c.164 (C.52:14-19.1), to the Legislature an implementation plan to effectuate the provisions of this act.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill allocates $50 million in available federal assistance to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The money shall be spent in efforts to improve the benefit claims processing capacity of the unemployment insurance (UI) program following the unprecedented spike in UI benefit claims filings caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Under the bill, the department is required to submit to the Legislature an implementation plan to effectuate the provisions of this bill.
