STATEMENT
Current law permits the Civil
Service Commission to exempt from the requirement to take an examination for an
entry-level law enforcement position a person who has successfully completed a
full Basic Course for Police Officers training course at a school approved and
authorized by the New Jersey Police Training commission. A municipal or county
police department may hire such a person under certain circumstances.
This bill provides that a municipal or county police department cannot utilize the provisions of this section to circumvent the intergovernmental transfer process regulations established by the Civil Service Commission for law enforcement officers which requires written authorization from the departing authority.
