SENATE LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR

SENATE, No. 205

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  JANUARY 30, 2020

The Senate Law and Public Safety Committee reports favorably a Senate Committee Substitute for Senate Bill No. 205.

As reported by the committee, this Senate committee substitute requires the Attorney General, upon request, to provide a means for email notification when a sex offender listed on the Internet registry registers a new address in a different county or zip code from the offender’s previous address or when any other information concerning that sex offender is updated on the registry.

Under the committee substitute, members of the public may request to receive this information by email for up to three counties or zip codes.  The notification by email provided under this committee substitute supplements the current methods of notification.
