ASSEMBLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 559

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  OCTOBER 19, 2020

The Assembly Women and Children Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 559.

This bill requires the parent or guardian of a child who is enrolled in a child care center licensed pursuant to P.L.1983, c. 492 (C.30:5B-1 et seq.) to notify the sponsor of the child care center or the sponsor’s designee that the child will be absent from the child care center.

If a child who is enrolled in a licensed child care center is determined to be absent without notification from the child’s parent or guardian, and if the reason for the child's absence is unknown to the child care center staff, under the provisions of the bill, the sponsor of the child care center or the sponsor’s designee would be required to immediately attempt to contact the child’s parent or guardian to notify the parent or guardian of the absence and to determine the reason for the absence.

This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2020-2021 session pending technical review.  As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.

As reported by the committee, Senate Bill No. 559 is identical to Assembly Bill No. 3277 which was also reported by the committee on this date.
