SENATE COMMUNITY AND URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
SENATE, No. 889
with committee amendments
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: FEBRUARY 13, 2020
The Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 889, with committee amendments.
As amended, this bill would prohibit landlords in the State from accepting any housing assistance that is provided by another state, or a political subdivision of another state, for the purpose of relocating a homeless person from that other state or political subdivision. A landlord who violates this provision would be subject to a fine of $500 for each day that a property is leased in violation thereof.
COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS:
The committee amendments reflect an update to a section of law amended by the bill. Specifically, the amendments incorporate language added by P.L.2019, c.272, which was compiled subsequent to the introduction of the bill and is unrelated to the bill’s purposes.
