STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 1862

with Senate Floor Amendments

      Senate Bill No. 1862 requires the Department of Corrections to institute in State correctional facilities a shift overlap of 30 minutes for the purpose of information dissemination between corrections officers beginning and ending their shifts.

      These Senate amendments change the reference to “corrections officers” in the bill to “correctional police officers.”  This amendment conforms the bill to the provisions of P.L.2017, c.293, which directed the Civil Service Commission to retitle all State corrections officers as “correctional police officers.”

      As amended, this bill is identical to Assembly Bill No. 2722 (1R), as amended by the Assembly Budget Committee on June 21, 2021.
