SENATE ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 2180

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  SEPTEMBER 17, 2020

The Senate Environment and Energy Committee favorably reports Senate Bill No. 2180.

This bill would allow tax credits for the development of qualified wind energy facilities in certain portfield sites.

Specifically, the bill would amend P.L.2010, c.57, known as the “Offshore Wind Economic Development Act,” to expand the definition of the term “wind energy zone” to include property located in the project area of the “Portfields Initiative,” designated as a portfield site by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA), and within a county of the second class with at least 600,000 residents.  This change would allow EDA to provide tax credits for qualified wind energy facilities located in this area.
