SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 2903

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  OCTOBER 8, 2020

The Senate Transportation Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Senate Bill No. 2903.

As amended and reported, this bill exempts from motor vehicle registration fees one passenger motor vehicle owned by any resident who is a recipient of the Purple Heart, or its successor military honor.  The bill also exempts Purple Heart recipients from driver’s license and identification card fees.  The bill requires, instead of permits, the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to waive certain identification card fees for a person who is homeless.

The committee amended the bill to also exempt Purple Heart recipients from paying the digitized photograph fee for the issuance of a driver’s license.
