SENATE HIGHER EDUCATION COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
SENATE, No. 3544
with committee amendments
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: DECEMBER 9, 2021
The Senate Higher Education Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 3544, with committee amendments.
P.L.2021, c.27, enacted in March 2021, requires a proprietary institution licensed to offer academic degrees that operates in this State to provide the Secretary of Higher Education with a teach-out plan that addresses a potential closure of the institution. As amended, this bill provides that a proprietary institution licensed to offer academic degrees that has operated in the State for at least 25 years is exempt from the requirement to provide the secretary with a teach-out plan in the event of its potential closure.
COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS:
The committee made technical amendments to the bill to replace references to legislation that has recently been enacted into law with its statutory citation.
